Clogged Milk Duct… OUCH!

Posted by admin On April - 3 - 2009

I am currently breast-feeding my 3rd baby. I always seem to get a few clogged ducts during the months I nurse, and the pain can be shocking! I've tried many different things, but this time I think I have found the BEST cure for a clogged duct...*drum roll* A detachable shower head!! Set on message or pulse, the shower head helps to loosen a clogged milk duct. I take the hottest shower I can stand, turn the shower head on message, and let it message for about 2-3 min. or longer depending on how much it hurts...It will more than likely be painful... but it's almost a 'good pain'. Immediately after the shower I try to nurse the baby (or pump) from the sore breast. Try different positions such as lying down or the 'football hold' and if possible try to position the baby with it's chin pointed toward the sore spot. (hence the picture LOL) Also, nurse the baby often from the sore breast. By doing these two things... I don't think I have had a clogged duct last longer than a day!

Happy Breast Feeding!!
